Anne Frank Exhibit

Yesterday, my husband and I went to the exhibit on the life of Anne Frank at the Salt Lake Public Library. It was so very moving. Anne's life is a lesson to all of us in tolerance of others and the importance of standing up for fairness.

The library showed a video of Anne's life and seeing her smile in the only known video of her was wondrous. The exhibit has a parallel time line showing Anne Frank's life events with the rise of Nazi Germany. Looking into the eyes of people who knew they were being marched off to certain death in gas chambers is sobering.

I am most grateful to her father for sharing Anne's private thoughts with us and seeing that her dream of becoming a novelist was fulfilled after her death. I remember reading the book when I was about Anne's age and feeling her spirit through her words.

To share two quotes:

"It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart."

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

The exhibit ends May 11. I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to learn more of this pivotal point of history.

Thanks for sharing this. I loved The Diary of Anne Frank. I hadn't realized that her father was the one who was influential in its publication. Every time I read that quote about her believing that people are really good at heart (especially knowing what she was going through at the time) I am uplifted.

I've never read the diary, but some of my kids have. I am somewhat aware of the history, a bit.

I am glad you shaed the quotes that you did. They were things I needed to read today.

I have for a long time felt and talked about the divinity of mankind, but I am surrounded with all manner of documentation that they are not. There are so many examples of such rampant stupidity anymore that it is easy to get frustrated and feel like the Lord did when he just drowned the whole thing and started over!

I dind't make it to this exhibit. But I saw a glimpse of it through your eyes, and I am glad you shared! Thank you!
